FAQ

Questions we hear every week

Can't see yours? Ask us directly.

Do I need to file a Self Assessment tax return?

Usually yes if you're self-employed, a landlord, a company director, earn over £150,000, have untaxed income, or need to claim reliefs such as higher-rate Gift Aid or professional expenses. If you're unsure, we'll tell you on the free call.

Does Making Tax Digital apply to me?

MTD for Income Tax applies to sole traders and landlords whose qualifying income is over £50,000 from April 2026, over £30,000 from April 2027, and over £20,000 from April 2028. Employment income and dividends don't count towards the threshold.

What counts as “qualifying income”?

Your gross self-employment and property income added together — before any expenses. A landlord with £35,000 of rent and a £20,000 side business has £55,000 of qualifying income, even if the profit is much lower.

Can you help if I'm behind on past years?

Yes. We bring overdue returns up to date, work out any penalties, and deal with HMRC for you. Employees can often claim back expenses for up to four previous tax years.

Which software do you use?

We work with Xero, QuickBooks and FreeAgent, and can recommend the best fit — including free options for simpler records.

How do the fixed fees work?

After your consultation we confirm a monthly fee in writing that covers everything in your plan. It only changes if the work changes, and we always agree that with you first.

Do you work with clients outside your area?

We work with clients right across the UK. Everything is handled online — secure upload, video calls and e-signature.
